The Patient Transporter reports to the Patient Transport Supervisor and is primarily responsible for Patient Transportation. Patient transporters will also be responsible for continual surveillance of the hallways and corridors to ensure equipment and other items are not stored in egress pathways and moving them to appropriate locations. They are expected to be detail oriented, reporting any unusual occurrences that might take place with the Patient during transport.
Transporters are expected to be self starters, able to follow directions, and to follow through task completion. They are expected to problem solve. They are expected to be able to perform the duties associated with the job, including but not limited to: transporting patients, patient weights, patient lifts, move equipment, monitor halls, clean equipment, complete tracking sheets daily, respond to codes and over head pages. They must have good written, and verbal skills; as well as having excellent customer service skills.
They must be able to exhibit a calm and thoughtful demeanor in difficult or potentially volatile circumstances. Transporters must be physically able to run, grab, reach and lift objects of 100 pounds or more and will be required to sit and stand for long periods. Their hearing and vision must be correctable within normal ranges and must be able to differentiate colors. Transporters are expected to comply with all Department and Hospital policies. They must be able to perform the specific skills required for the position, as outlined in the Competency and Skills Check List. Patient transporters are responsible for assisting clinical staff with patient movement and ambulation according to lift team criteria.
High school diploma or equivalent; ability to communicate effectively. Customer Service and guest relations experience. CPR is required within training period.
Working knowledge of patient transportation equipment; Knowledge of basic medical terminology
